Japan like many other countries has been very trying when running a hotel. At times it has felt like we have been taking one step forward and two steps back. Every time we had just started to get good occupancy the government would then issue a state of emergency and bookings would go from being strong to literally nothing.
This has proved tricky as just when we were just getting momentum we were stopped in our tracks however even with these difficult circumstances we have managed to build some great grounding blocks that will help for the future.
The good news is that when government restrictions allowed we managed to get strong occupancy and our focus on being the only true dog-friendly hotel in Hokkaido has meant that our brand is growing stronger and stronger.

Some more good news, it is looking like borders will be opening soon. As soon as the end of this month for students and business people and we feel optimistic that this will then extend to tourists on a controlled scale a few months later and with luck fully open by the beginning of next ski season.
We really feel that the tide is turning and with all the work that we have put in over the last two years, this will reap rewards once borders reopen. I don’t know about you but I have definitely missed the snow and skiing!
